Some years after receiving his BFA in painting/sculpture from Alfred University, Dale studied figurative sculpture for two years with Fulbright scholar, John Clague, at the Cooper School of Art in Cleveland, Ohio, and then continued privately at his studio.  Following this, (his first commission) a portrait of  the actor/singer Mario Lanza was purchased for the Mario Lanza Museum in Philadelphia, PA.
