Growing up in Ohio, Dale was inspired by his family to study art. He graduated with a BFA in painting and sculpture from Alfred University, New York and later studied figurative sculpture at the Cooper School of Art in Ohio.

From 1984 to 2020 Dale taught at Maharishi International University in the Department of Art. The main focus of his teaching was Figurative Sculpture & Drawing, including the course, “Art and Nature”, which focused on experience and creative expression of observation of the form and function of nature.
Over the years Dale’s artwork has been selected for many public collections, including the Mario Lanza Museum in Philadelphia, the New York State Capitol Building, the Meredith Building (Better Homes & Gardens) in Des Moines, and the University of Iowa Hospital. Additionally, sculptures of his ceramic beetles were displayed in a two person exhibit in the Natural History Hall in the Smithsonian Institute. And more recently, a large bronze sculpture, “Dancing Oak Leaves”, was made for a memorial garden in Fairfield, Iowa.

The categories of artwork on this website (Figurative Sculpture, Rose-labyrinth, Beetles, Journal) are responses to the inspiration and appreciation of the beauty, magic and mystery of nature:

By form and function nature is a muse inspiring creativity and a driving force to re-create. Thus it is a metaphor deepening appreciation and understanding, and is a pure reflection of a greater realm – the Divine.
